The MultiPlus-II combines the functions of the MultiPlus and the MultiGrid. It has all the features of the MultiPlus, plus an external current transformer option to implement PowerControl and PowerAssist and to optimize self-consumption with external current sensing (50 A or 100 A sensor options).
Free NZ shipping on Victron inverter/chargers, and every MultiPlus-II is covered by Victron's standard 5-year warranty.
Key features
- Uninterrupted AC power (UPS function) — takes over from grid, shore or generator power in under 20 milliseconds, so computers and electronics keep running without disruption
- PowerControl & PowerAssist — prevents overload of a limited AC source and boosts a generator or shore-side supply with battery power when loads peak
- ESS-ready — the key component in a Victron Energy Storage System, combining with MPPT solar chargers or grid-tie PV inverters
- Parallel and three-phase capable — combine units for increased power output, higher charge rates, or three-phase supply
- Remote monitoring and control — pair with a GX device for free VRM app and portal access from anywhere in the world
- 12 V, 24 V and 48 V models — from 3000 VA to 15000 VA
Which model do I need?
Match the model to your battery bank voltage (12 V, 24 V or 48 V) and the continuous power your loads draw — use the specifications table further down to size against real-world watts. If you'd like a hand narrowing it down, read our guide How to Choose a MultiPlus with Confidence, or email technical@luxsolar.co.nz and we'll point you to the right one.
An Inverter/Charger with device networking built-in, the MultiPlus-II GX communicates with a solar charger, batteries, and other devices to control a grid-connected, off-grid, or remote power installation. Capable of parallel operation for increased power output or battery charge rates, the MultiPlus-II GX can also be configured for three-phase supply. A host of advanced features, such as uninterrupted power supply, setting load limits, and supplementing limited grid-power availability with battery power, can all be controlled straight from your phone or smart device. Remote monitoring is also possible.
PowerAssist
The MultiPlus-II will prevent overload of a limited AC source, such as a generator or shore power connection. First, battery charging will automatically be reduced when otherwise an overload would occur. The second level will boost the output of a generator or shore-side supply with power taken from the battery.
ESS: Energy Storage Systems
The MultiPlus-II is the key component in a Victron ESS system, providing the flexibility to combine with MPPT Solar Chargers or Grid-tie PV Inverters. For examples and more detailed information, see the ESS (Energy Storage System) manual.
Uninterrupted AC power (UPS function)
In the event of a grid failure, or when shore or generator power is disconnected, the inverter within the Multi is automatically activated and takes over the supply to the connected loads. This happens so fast (less than 20 milliseconds) that computers and other electronic equipment will continue to operate without disruption.
Remote Monitoring and Control
When coupled with a GX device (e.g., Cerbo GX) you can monitor and control your Multi and system or systems locally (LAN) or remotely via the internet from anywhere in the world, using the free VRM app and free VRM portal website. Access can be from a phone, tablet, laptop, or PC for multiple operating systems. There is no end to the level of control, from adjusting your Multi to auto-starting a backup generator and more.
About the power rating — VA vs Watts
Victron rates this MultiPlus-II in VA (apparent power) — the engineering rating that describes what the inverter stage can deliver regardless of load type. The number in each variant title (for example 3000 or 5000) is Victron's model designation and matches the VA rating — so a MultiPlus-II 3000 is a 3000 VA unit — while the precise continuous watt figures for each model are listed in the specifications table below. For resistive loads (heaters, kettles, lighting), VA and continuous watts are effectively the same. For motors, fridges, pumps and switch-mode power supplies, size against the continuous W at 25 °C figure in the spec table. Why VA, not watts? Read our guide →
Specifications (230 V models)
| Model | Apparent power | Continuous @ 25 °C | Continuous @ 40 °C | Continuous @ 65 °C | Peak power | Transfer switch |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3000 (12 / 24 / 48 V) | 3000 VA | 2400 W | 2200 W | 1700 W | 5500 W | 32 A |
| 5000 (12 / 24 / 48 V) | 5000 VA | 4000 W | 3700 W | 3000 W | 9000 W | 50 A |
| 8000 (48 V) | 8000 VA | 6400 W | 5500 W | 4000 W | 15000 W | 100 A |
| 10000 (48 V) | 10000 VA | 8000 W | 7000 W | 6000 W | 18000 W | 100 A |
| 15000 (48 V) | 15000 VA | 12000 W | 10000 W | 7000 W | 27000 W | 100 A |
Continuous power figures measured with non-linear loads at crest factor 3:1. The 8k / 10k / 15k models can only be parallel-connected with an external AC transfer switch. The 48/6500/100-50 (6.5 kVA) is a newer-generation model rated a little differently: 6000 W continuous at 25 °C (5700 W at 40 °C, 4600 W at 65 °C), 11000 W peak and a 50 A transfer switch — full specifications are in Victron's MultiPlus-II 4k / 4k5 / 6k5 datasheet (PDF).
Complete your system
Pair your MultiPlus-II with the rest of your Victron power system:
- Batteries — lithium (LiFePO4) and AGM banks in 12 V, 24 V and 48 V to store the energy your MultiPlus-II manages.
- MPPT solar charge controllers — DC-coupled SmartSolar chargers to build a complete Victron ESS or off-grid setup.
- Battery monitoring & GX devices — add a Cerbo GX or SmartShunt for full remote monitoring and control via VRM.
- Battery cable & connectors — correctly sized tinned-copper cable and lugs to wire your inverter to the bank safely.
- Fuses & circuit protection — the right Class T fuse or breaker between your battery and the MultiPlus-II.
