Fuses, Circuit breakers and Circuit Protection

Fuses, circuit breakers, isolators and surge protection for 12, 24 and 48 V solar and battery systems. A fuse protects the cable, not the appliance, so size the cable first and fuse below what it can carry. Check the voltage rating too: 32 V fuses suit 12 and 24 V systems, 48 V banks need 58 V or higher, and PV strings need a DC rating above the array's open-circuit voltage.

In brief: PV fuses or an MC4 inline holder on the panel side, a solar circuit breaker to isolate the array, a Class T fuse at the battery terminal (the standard for lithium banks), MEGA or ANL fuses on main DC feeds and MIDI fuses on branch circuits.
